Built for the Bandit, Suzuki's all-new 1255cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, DOHC inline-Four replaced the mid-'80s air/oil-cooled design that powered its predecessor.
The engine layout resembles the previous setup with its central timing chain and side throttle bodies feeding a fairly vertical bank of cylinders.
The engine, however, is more compact, with vertically stacked driveshafts, and now the gearbox has a sixth gear for a more relaxed cruising rpm on the highway. A crank-driven secondary balance shaft has also been incorporated to reduce vibration at all speeds.
